The third in a series of reports investigating the potential for increasing the use of wood for fuel in the Region is now available. This report was prepared by Dr Robert Rippengal of Econergy, who sadly died just before its completion. The report recommends that in order to stimulate development, the focus for marketing and promotion should be on the most likely short-term prospects. These are small to medium-large (up to 5 MW) wood-chip boilers in the public sector, and private farms/estates and ‘high load’ properties such as rural hotels. At the same time strategically important community heating and wood pellet production should also be actively promoted.
