Turning the Vison into Reality
Since 2003 the Regional Woodland Strategy has become much more than a praiseworthy vision. Numerous groups have delivered, or are in the process of delivering, on over a hundred separate Strategy related projects.

For centuries the East of England’s social, economic and environmental facets have benefited in many ways from the region’s woodlands. Today the Woodland Strategy is helping to ensure that the contribution these woodlands make to the sustainability of the region continues to grow. Along with others, this Strategy is a significant and sustainable component of the East of England’s Integrated Regional Strategy.

The East of England’s woodland cover amounts to 7.3% of the region’s total land area. Extending to around 140,000 hectares, it is a mixture of ancient woodlands, planted forests and community greenspaces. The Strategy embraces all types of woodland and encourages owners, managers and beneficiaries alike to use them in ways that will be of advantage to all who live, work and visit the region. As a result the Regional Woodland Strategy is steadily transforming its vision into reality.
